Reading...

I'm still not better.

I've been sick for so many days now, it's all so blah.  I thought, "Well, I should write a blog post today.  I have been meaning to make my blogging a bit more regular.  But, what do you write about when excepting a trip to the emergency room for fluids, you've been cloistered inside your house for the week?"  The answer?  Nothin'.

So, the one thing I have been doing quite a bit of in the last few days, as you can probably imagine, is reading.  I've gotten a lot of reading done.  My book choices have been a little schizophrenic perhaps, a little all over the map, but they have made sort-of sense in that everything is gentle, calming, happy, well-ended...no one likes unhappy when their belly hurts.

We'll start from the bottom up.

Almost French:  Love and a New Life in Paris is part of my current (okay, honestly, my all the time) favourite genre; biography.  Sarah Turnbull writes frankly about the funny, sad and disappointing times that come about in her life when she moves to Paris.  She is outspoken, emotional and independent, and her new french boyfriend is very old-world, gentle and a little confused by the whirlwind of a woman who has come into his life - but the two of them are one of the most charming couples on paper.  And of course, there is happiness at the end.

Letters from the Country was written by my own countrywoman, Marsha Boulton, who moved from a high paying and prestigious job to starting her own sheep farm.  Marsha has actually written several volumes, all in a short-story format, along with a book about her dog, Wally.  She's really a very good storyteller, making the adventure of that big country move seem even more exciting.

The Magician's Nephew and The Horse and his Boy are books 1 and 3 respectively in the Narnia series.  I won't try and summarize them because you either have already read them, or can most certainly find a better writter somewhere online who will do a fine job of it.  I had only ever read The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, and so I'm making my way through the others.

That's me these days...worrying, reading, drinking tea.

  1. Norwalk sucks, and it takes a long time to recover from- our whole family got it two years ago, and it took almost a month before everyone was completely recovered. Plus it was tons of fun when the toddler and the baby were both throwing up and having diarrhea at the same time.

Yuck. Feel better and enjoy the reading.
