Green

I know Spring is coming; I know it.  But it feels so so soooooo far away some days.  And this is why I'm taking stock of the green things around me, the bits of Spring that are popping up whether I feel warmed and happy and refreshed or not!  For more bits of green, you can check out Cari's link up.

Our old planting bench, sitting on the porch and waiting for seeds...

The feathery mosses and evergreen boughs from our sleigh ride two weeks ago.

Carrot tops...essentially the only thing green and growing in the house these days besides some onions.

  1. The green planting bench is wonderful.

Maybe you would know. I have a sprouting onion, and I really want to encourage it, instead of eating it! What should I do with it? Put it in a bowl of water like this or plant it in a pot?

    1. Well, Christie, if you have green onions then you can put them in a cup of water and they will root for you, at which point you can plant them if you like. If you have an onion onion, like a yellow or red onion, then I think you need to actually plant it in dirt.

  2. Wow, carrot tops! Great contrast with the green and orange. Are you going to grow new carrots with them?

    1. Hi Cathy! The carrots that you eat are actually the tap roots of the carrot plant, which sadly won't grow back. You can plant carrot tops again, and they will grow with new little white roots and lovely feathery green tops, but they won't produce another tap root, unfortunately.

  3. I agree about the potting bench. So, so pretty. Like something that would be featured in a hipster's living room.

Wait a second, Amy. You're not secretly going hipster on me, are you?

    1. Haha! Cari, don't worry. I'm pretty far away from hipster.
